A step-by-step guide to earning and selling carbon credits through the LCFS program.

A lot of companies and organizations might be leaving money on the table just by not collecting carbon credits, specially if you are in British Columbia. This is because of the BC Low Carbon Fuel Standard (BC LCFS).

What is BC Low Carbon Fuel Standard (BC LCFS)

Introduced in 2010, the BC LCFS is a climate policy designed to lower the carbon intensity of transportation fuels, the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the province. The program creates financial incentives for low-carbon fuels and requires their adoption, driving investment in clean fuel production and supporting the goals of the Clean BC Roadmap.

Fuel carbon intensity is measured on a full lifecycle basis, and compliance generates credits that can be traded or reinvested in clean fuel projects. Through the Initiative Agreement program, these credits also help fund innovative projects that advance BC’s clean energy transition.

How it works

1.     The LCFS sets mandatory carbon intensity (CI) reduction targets for transportation fuels, which become stricter over time.

2.     Organizations that supply fuels with a lower carbon intensity than the target (e.g., renewable diesel, electricity from EV chargers) earn compliance credits.

3.     To achieve compliance, fuel suppliers must have a net-zero or positive balance of credits at the end of each reporting period. This means companies with deficits must buy credits from companies with surpluses on the open market.

Earn and Sell Credits with ease

1.     Data Reporting

Foreseeson oversees and manages theentire report submission process, EV charger registration, and administrativetasks on behalf of our customers to ensure our customers can seamlesslygenerate carbon credits. You don’t have to worry about a thing.

2.     Aggregation

Buyers typically acquire substantialcredit volumes in each transaction. Our program resolves this challenge byconsolidating all credits into larger packages, making it possible forcustomers with small credit quantities.

3.     Credit Sales

Beyond reporting, we help customers sellcarbon credits on their behalf once they have been validated by the Government. We offer a complete solution, handling everything from reporting to successfulcredit sales.

4.     Payout

After the successful completion of creditsales, each one of our customers who were part of the sales will receive theirrespective portion of the sold credit values, determined by the mutuallyagreed-upon service fee.

Who can claim carbon credits?

- Charger owners whoare able to provide the energy usage data from their EV chargers.
